The Bishops Need to be Responsible When Talking About Economics: They Are Not When Talking About Minimum Wage

The Bishops and American Business: Rethinking the Minimum Wage

January 26, 2014 By Kathy Schiffer  Patheos.com

Simply raising the minimum wage does not begin to unwreck the economy that has been severely damaged by Obamacare and its effect on the workforce participation.  It can only add to inflation and higher unemployment in the the 16 –20 year old workforce sector. Schiffer does a good job laying this out. One can only hope that the Bishops educated in the Keynesian curricula will wake up.

Measure D is Bad for San Jose: Especially for Young People. It’s a JOB KILLER.

Articles — Vote No on D

296803_346741278748356_351732288_nTell your friends in Silicon Valley that Measure D is a job killer.  Documented studies show that it is detrimental to the people it is suppose to help because it causes jobs to dry up.  As a mother with kids finishing college and who have finished college, I want my kids employed and realizing their dream of independence.  I could use the rest and time to think about the future.  They need internships and experience opportunities, but this measure exempts no one.

What are people like Bishop McGrath thinking when they endorse a job killer?  Do they realize they are doing the opposite of the rosy picture they paint about single mothers and the minimum wage?  Are they paying attention to what is going on in the economy?  We need job opportunities, not another noose to cripple them.  Spread the word. Visit the NO ON D website http://savesanjosejobs.com/ and spread the word.  Remember to spread the word on YES on 32 while you are at it.  You will be doing your part to save jobs in San Jose and the whole State of California.

NYC Soda Ban Will Have Unintended Consequences | United Liberty | Free Market - Individual Liberty - Limited Government

Tom McClintock demonstrates how we should think things through with an attitude towards prudence and not feel good, follow your heart moments.  We are responsible for the feel good ideas we support that lead to harmful consequences. That is our part in promoting the common good-the good that is common to all by virtue of our shared humanity.

Kresta In The Afternoon: Chaput on Obama: “I Can’t Vote for Somebody Who is Pro-Abortion”

Archbishop Chaput’s message needs to reach the broader audience of Catholics especially when they are subject to local campaigns in the pew of economic issues such as increasing of the minimum wage.

Kresta In The Afternoon: Chaput on Obama: “I Can’t Vote for Somebody Who is Pro-Abortion”

“Jesus tells us very clearly that if we don’t help the poor, we’re going to go to hell,” Archbishop Chaput explained. “But Jesus didn’t say the government has to take care of them, or that we have to pay taxes to take care of them. Those are prudential judgments.”
“You can’t say that somebody’s not Christian because they want to limit taxation,” he continued. “To say that it’s somehow intrinsically evil like abortion doesn’t make any sense at all.”  Archbishop Chaput

What a refreshingly clear statement! This is the message that needs to be made loud and clear, especially when Catholics in the pew are subjected to such  messages from the pulpit  like the recent Labor in the Pulpit Sunday that took place in the Diocese of San Jose for the observance of Labor Day. A local politician running for office Paul Fong addressed the faithful in the pews, but neglected to say he was in a contested race.  His talk about living wage was not fair nor balanced.

Fr. Roger Landry gave a homily, The Gospel of Human Work, Labor Day 2004, September 6, 2004 where he gives a lesson about how God gave us the gift of work from the beginning and how it was not taken as a result of the fall, but transformed into a grace to help us participate in the work of salvation for ourselves and others. It is a beautiful reflection and a necessary one given the timely issues for Election 2012.
