Vatican Intervenes: No More Tropes in the Agnus Dei The Chant Café

Thank God for the relief of the Vatican saying “no more” to the haranguing of a beautiful prayer that lends itself to a simple chant.  Now if they could roll it back on the Gloria, as the article points out.  At our parish, they have done all sorts of attempts to make it a swinging lyrical production treating the beginning two lines like an antiphon and it drives me nuts.  I attended a Mass last Sunday at Our Lady of Peace Shrine in Santa Clara, where the Gloria was simply chanted, and it was a joy and a relief. I will keep hoping.
